It's not just about achieving high grades - it's also about understanding what you're doing.

Book-keeping was something I was interested in learning about for a while, but thought that without any financial background would be beyond my capabilities. I decided on this course as it was the only intensive course, at the time, in the south of England. Although I found the course challenging, the facilitator was friendly and approachable, and assisted me to understand the coursework.
I was fortunate enough to go to Almeria, Spain to study. This allowed me to give my full attention to the course, while staying in a beautiful environment.

Shirley's kind and patient nature allowed me to learn quickly, without the pressure that one would associate with an intensive course.
The location is breathtaking!!
[Post course note: "I am definitely going to go to college next year, so once again, I'd like to thank you for being so nice and making me feel like I may be capable of being useful."]

A great course with comprehensive course notes. It provided the right balance of theory and practise exercises to ensure everything sinks in. I feel very prepared for the real world of book-keeping! |

Whilst looking for a change in career, I wanted to do something with good prospects. Having looked into book-keeping and contacting the ICB, I looked into the different courses available. I decided the BILC intensive 2 week course was my best option:
1) it was tutor led, so someone was at hand to answer questions and explain things
2) it only took 2 weeks to complete the course, so I could start my new chosen career sooner
3) the pass rate was excellent and speaks for itself that the course is worth it's money.
I was worred I might not be able to keep up the pace in a 2 week intensive course. I knew I would have to put a lot of work and energy into this so I could get the result I wanted. It was intensive and hard work, but I was surprised how well I did and how much I remembered. The small sized classes are good and the people on my course were great. We helped each other out, if need be. Although the course was intensive, I really enjoyed my experience and I feel very confident for the future.

Thank you, by the way, for a very rewarding 2 weeks. It was very tough, a
lot tougher than I thought it would be, but it was fun and you created a
very relaxed and friendly and enjoyable learning environment, and I would
definately recommend the course to others!

One of the best decisions I have made for a while was to go on this course. I felt that I was pushed hard and at times, to the limit, but the results are truly amazing. I cannot wait to sit my ICB exam and now expect to pass with top grade. At age 55 with an impending redundancy looming, I had started to despair about my future. But not now. I intend to further develop my skills, take the advanced course and examination, and look forward to the future knowing that it is back in my own hands. The course and my lodgings come highly recommended.

Overall I was extremely happy with the content and presentation of the course. The course notes were excellent and will provide a good reference source over the years to come. The combination of teaching and practical application helped to ensure that the information was understood and could be applied effectively.

Before I did this course my knowledge of book-keeping was zero. Incredibly, after two weeks hard work and ascending a very steep learning curve, I am confident not only of obtaining a good grade in the exam, but of being able to put what I have learnt into practice and becoming self-employed. It was VERY hard work, and VERY intense; but it did not pretend to be otherwise. But despite this it was also very enjoyable. I woud recommend the course to anyone contemplating book-keeping as a career.

Excellent course, very inensive - but perfectly 'do-able'. If you clear your diary for 2 weeks! Very well presented in a nice learning environment and small classes a bonus.
I found out about this course via the Internet and Dorset Business Link.

I found out about this course from the Institute of Certified Book-keepers and I chose it because it was the only intensive 2 week course on offer! I gave this course 5 out of 5 - excellent. |

I had been trying to complete the course by distance learning through a different college. However, I felt unsupported and the course did not provide enough practice exercises. I also had no time-table for completion of the course.
I welcomed the idea of a supported learning environment and the positive feedback I got from Shirley. I can honestly say that I am glad to have finally taken the exam. I had no concept of 'time' with distance learning and would probably have given it up. |

The presentation of the course was such that it made it very easy to follow and understand the principles. And the one-on-one tuition was a great help for gaining confidence. The book-keeping has given me a very useful tool for future self-employment.

The course was excellent. It covered the full syllabus in just the right
level of detail and the small class size meant that there was plenty of
opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification. The teaching style was
clear and easy to follow with a strong emphasis on practical exercises which
was great preparation for the subsequent exam. From my point of view, it
was good to be able to attend the course and pass the Intermediate
Book-keeping exam within a matter of weeks. This enabled me to apply for a
practising certificate and to start advertising for clients as soon as
possible. I'm now very happy to be working from home, running a small
book-keeping business for self-employed individuals and small businesses.

If you are prepared to put in the work you will definitely reap the benefits with this course. I found it to be well structured, with lots of encouragement and a friendly atmosphere.

The course was very well organised. Plenty of practise exercises which was good, so you could gauge how you are doing. Shirley explained things in a straightforward, logical manner helping to make what can be quite complicated concepts easier to understand. The low ratio of teacher to students also helped to cover the coursework required in good time.
P.S. My host family were excellent and the facilities they provided were marvellous. They made me feel very much at home.

The examples used were very useful and the hands-on feel to everything worked well. I hope that the teacher had as much fun and discussion as we three candidates felt.
It was a slick well-organised two weeks and I would have no hesitation in recommending others to attend.
Thank you for a really informed and enjoyable time.

I found your choice of the order in which we covered the course material both logical and easy to follow despite the new concepts you were introducing to us. My partner (Jane) had done a book-keeping course only a few weeks before I came to you at BILC. She had chosen to do it on a 'one day per week' basis, and she found it difficult constantly to break and resume at weekly intervals. She also had difficulty with the sequence of the topics selected by the course tutor. I felt it was invaluable to have the continuity, the logical sequence, and the ease of access to you as our tutor to sort out misunderstandings and questions as we went along. I thought your patience with our questions in class and your willingness to go into detail to resolve issues promptly was a great benefit to us, but I must admit I also appreciated Barbara's and Faye's patience with me as the slowest in the class. I do not know how you could handle a situation where you got one racehorse and one packhorse in the same class!! I thought I was fortunate to find myself in class with such fast workers, and I also thought in a way we helped each other along to some extent by not wanting to hold each other up.
As regards my reasons for selecting your course, they are quite simple:
1) full time small group tuition makes it easier to learn, and I knew I'd need all the help I could get! 2) location of your college was very convenient for me, 3) an opportunity to cover a lot of new ground efficiently in two weeks, 4) a recommendation from the ICB, and 5) since I was investing for my own future, I was willing to spend the extra money to give myself the greatest chance of success, and thanks to you, it worked!

I was desparately looking for a change in career. I searched for a book-keeping course, but found most were part-time, over 30 weeks. That wasn't for me. The BILC course was intensive. I did stay away from home for most of of the fortnight, but that way I could throw myself into the course. I was able to work in the evenings with no distractions. The course was brilliantly set out, tutor led with practice questions, assessed questions, (making you stay alert) and mock exams. The classes were informative and pretty fast, but relaxed and very enjoyable. We worked, panicked, sweated, but also had a laugh and I hope to stay in touch with the people I met.
I was also able to start work in a book-keeping role for a small company straight after my exam. It may have required some effort, but 2 weeks for a career change into something I actually enjoy - it's worth it!

I shall be recommending the ICB Book-keeping course to anyone I meet who is contemplating book-keeping as a career.
While it was very hard work and very intensive, Shirley's method of teaching, along with the constant practising of answering questions, and the excellently detailed course notes provides you with such a breadth of knowledge, in only 2 weeks, that you cannot fail the course or the ICB professional exam. Practising post exam papers before and after the course, adds further to one's knowledge and confidence.
Having a small number of students on the course worked extremely well. All five of us found time to get to know and help each other, have fun and work hard!

The course requires total commitment and many hours study in the evenings, but as a result, at the end of two weeks you have gained a solid understanding of the principles of book-keeping. I was amazed at how much I had learned within such a short space of time and the exam results, which were achievable.

Happy to comment - 'after all I wouldn't be in the senior position I am now, Accounts Office Manager, if it weren't for my Book-keeping qualification.' Have put a lot of my training into action and it has been very beneficial.
Hope all is well and you are putting lots of others through the course. Pleased to have got a credit - thought I would have had to re-sit!! It's surprising how much you actually remember.
Well will end now as I've got more figures to work on. Keep in touch.
